Things weren’t looking great for the Los Angeles Lakers this evening in their contest against the New Orleans Pelicans, who were without their superstar big man, Anthony Davis.
After losing Kobe Bryant in the first half to an Achilles injury, Los Angeles found themselves down 87-82 with under three minutes to go in what was a poorly executed offensive game from both teams. Luckily for the Lakers, they found an offensive surge to close this one out, led by Lou Williams and Julius Randle.
Williams hit a three after a broken play to get the Lakers within two, followed by a crucial tip-in by Randle. The duo then traded a few buckets before Randle hit a free throw in the final seconds to ice a 95-91 win.
The Lakers finished the final 2:40 on a 13-4 run to move to 9-31 on the year. The only key young player that didn’t finish the game was D’Angelo Russell, who helped spark the Lakers late in the third quarter and early in the fourth. He ended the night with 13 points on four-of-eight shooting, four rebounds and three assists in 24 minutes.
