When the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors met on October 17 for their first of two preseason contests against one another, the game was called just before the end of the third quarter because of poor court conditions.
Tonight, the Lakers probably wished the game was called just before the end of the third quarter as well. The defending NBA champions took it to the purple and gold in a big way, dominating from start to finish in their 136-97 victory.
To compound the dreadful ending to their preseason campaign, the Lakers lost Jordan Clarkson to a shoulder injury, and the severity will not be known until he undergoes an MRI on Friday. Los Angeles has already been without Kobe Bryant the past few games because of a minor leg injury, although he is expected to be ready to go for the season opener next Wednesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Even though most of the game’s highlights belonged to the Warriors, the Lakers still had some of their own. Tonight serves as a reminder that there will be growing pains with this young core, but of course the highlights provide reasons why fans should be excited about the team’s future.
