The vast majority of bloggers/sportswriters you’ve read got into this business for one reason: We love sports. It’s not just the one we sign up to cover, either. There’s just something about the competition that piqued our interest and keeps us going despite some of the frustrations that come with trying to make it in one of the most competitive industries you can find.
Case in point: I grew up a fanatic. My parents put me in every organized sport you can think of (except football, concussions, so instead I got friends together to play weekly football games) and for close games even on school nights, my dad would pull me out of bed to watch the final moments. I became a Vikings fan as a result of my love for the Lakers. I was sure they were somehow related as both teams wore purple and gold. I seriously regret that decision as they’ve produced more kicks directly to the nuts than life itself, but that’s neither here nor there. I can’t help but root for my Vikes.
The reason for those seemingly tangential epithets is that we here at Lakers Outsiders all share that same love for competition. We also enjoy talking crap to each other. Fantasy football offers both releases, so we’re putting together a league.
Oh, and we won’t be tanking. As of right now, #TeamTank is a thing of the past. Let’s hope it stays that way.
We’re going to compile weekend recaps and the occasional example of our smack talk for your entertainment. If this is a success, we’ll figure out a way to engage in you, the readers and listeners for a future league or something similar. Fantasy basketball is right around the corner, so maybe we can make that work.
This should be fun and, even though this isn’t exactly Lakers-related, we’re the Outsiders, anyway.
