The Los Angeles Lakers are in the midst of an extensive draft process working out many prospects they could potentially select with their two draft choices. However, they may already be set on one player that they have not worked out.
According to the New York Times’ Adam Zagoria, the Lakers are “seriously considering” drafting Mitchell Robinson with the 25th overall pick.
Robinson is a seven-footer who did not play at all last season. The 20-year-old was committed to Western Kentucky but left the school before playing in any games. He chose to forego college to prepare for the draft by himself, but did not choose to play professional basketball overseas in the meantime, unlike most prospects who skip college.
Robinson is still a highly thought of prospect with Team USA experience and an intriguing but divisive player among draft circles. Tankathon has him listed as the 25th best player in the draft class which would put him in the exact region where the Lakers would want to select Robinson.
The center has not had any public workouts with the Lakers which would bring the report into question. Additionally, the Lakers reportedly made a similar decision last season on Tony Bradley before drafting and then trading the center for the two picks that became Josh Hart and Thomas Bryant. The Lakers could be using this tactic in hopes of trading down from 25 once again.
Nevertheless, Robinson’s name has been connected to the Lakers more than once this summer. With about three weeks left until the 2018 NBA Draft, there are no guarantees but there are plenty of interesting rumors.
