An MRI revealed that Brook Lopez suffered a moderate ankle sprain in Monday’s loss to the Golden State Warriors. The Lakers’ starting center will be out at least three weeks before being reevaluated to resume basketball activities.

Original story follows:

The rough streak for Brook Lopez continued Monday night against the Warriors, but not for his on-the-court performance. Brook turned his right ankle and immediately was taken to the locker room. He will not return tonight, but the x-ray results were negative and he will be receiving an MRI tomorrow.

The injury didn’t look too ugly but it was easy to tell that Lopez was in pain. He had to get helped off of the court but was able to put some weight on the right foot.

It’s no secret that Lopez has been struggling lately, leading to some discussion on whether he should even start anymore. While we don’t know much, it’s probably a safe bet to say that Brook will miss at least one game and may miss as much as the rest of 2017.

If Lopez has to sit out an extended amount, head coach Luke Walton will have plenty of options to replace the starting center. Kyle Kuzma, Julius Randle, Andrew Bogut, and rookie Thomas Bryant could all see an increase in minutes.
