After completing a buyout with guard Jose Calderon, the Lakers’ roster stands at 14, with one open spot. While there is a multitude of options the Lakers could go with, it seems the team has found its 15th man. The team is planning to sign D-Leaguer David Nwaba, according to Shams Charania of the Vertical.
The Los Angeles Lakers plan to sign guard David Nwaba of the L.A. D-Fenders on a 10-day contract, league sources tell @TheVertical.

Nwaba was among the most popular candidates on the D-Fenders for a call-up. Nwaba is known for his high-energy style of play, with highlight dunks and energetic rebounding. The 24-year-old can positively impact the team every time he steps on the court, with an all-out effort on both sides of the floor.
If there is any area of the game where Nwaba struggles, it is outside of the three-point line. Nwaba averages 28.6 percent from long range on 14 attempts. It is doubtful that will be what the Lakers ask of him, but there will be opportunities afforded to him to show what he has to offer, whether it be attempting threes or dunking through someone’s face.
In Magic Johnson’s short tenure with the Lakers, the team has gotten exponentially younger. After trading away Lou Williams and Marcelo Huertas, and buying out Calderon, the Lakers’ average age is 25.7. (H/T to our own Jacob Rude) The team will get even younger with the Nwaba signing. Let’s see whether Nwaba can earn a second 10-day and find a role in the NBA in the last stretch of the season.
