2018 NBA Draft: Lakers select Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk with 47th overall pick

The Los Angeles Lakers have kept busy during the 2018 NBA Draft. With their first-round selection, the Lakers selected Moritz Wagner out of Michigan 25th overall. With the 39th overall pick, acquired via a Wednesday night trade with the 76ers, the Lakers drafted Isaac Bonga, a German 18-year old prospect.

Finally, with the 47th overall pick, the Lakers have drafted Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, a guard out of Kansas.

Mykhailiuk, who goes by the abbreviated Svi for his first name, is a sharp-shooter who was one of the best shooters in the draft. With Kansas last season, he hit 44.4 percent from beyond the arc on 259 attempts.

In total, he averaged 14.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.2 rebounds while hitting 42.3 percent of his total attempts.

Mykhailiuk will give the Lakers instant shooting, something they desperately needed last season. With a negative wingspan, there are many concerns about whether he can hang defensively, but given his ability to hit shots from deep, he’ll likely find minutes in purple and gold.

The Lakers’ focus now shifts to free agency and trades, where there is potential for an equally busy offseason for the new front office.
