Lakers’ Alex Caruso, Thomas Bryant voted to Midseason All-NBA G-League Team

The Los Angeles Lakers were well-represented on the Midseason All-NBA G-League Team announced on Friday. Point guard Alex Caruso and center Thomas Bryant were both selected for the honor for their play on the South Bay Lakers.

Caruso is on a two-way contract allowing him to spend a maximum of 45 days with the NBA squad over the course of the season. In the G-League, Caruso has averaged 18.4 points and 7.5 assists in 50 games. Caruso has been a crucial part of the Lakers in Lonzo Ball’s absence due to injury.

Bryant, a rookie drafted in the second round, has not found as much playing time on the parent team but has been just as impressive in the G-League. In 22 games played, Bryant averages 19.3 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 58.9 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from three.

The South Bay Lakers are 20-12 and currently second in the Western Conference.

Both Caruso and Bryant are promising parts of the Lakers’ present and future. The point guard has been a contributor in his limited playing time on the parent team and has likely earned the backup point guard duties over Tyler Ennis, who did not play in Friday’s win over the Nets.

Bryant, meanwhile, is a raw prospect with high potential as a big who can protect the rim and stretch the floor. His time with the South Bay Lakers is a crucial step in his development as he becomes more NBA-ready.
