Official: Larry Nance, Jr. to participate in 2018 NBA Slam Dunk Contest

We have liftoff.

Los Angeles Lakers’ power forward Larry Nance, Jr. was confirmed as a participant for the 2018 NBA Slam Dunk Contest. Nance will be one of several Lakers to represent the franchise in its city for All-Star Weekend as Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, and Kyle Kuzma will be playing in the Rising Stars Challenge.

Nance has missed out on the opportunity to compete in the dunk contest the last few years due to injury but this time, the high-flyer is healthy and ready to put on a show in Los Angeles.

Nance will hope to follow in the footsteps of his father, who won the inaugural NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 1984. Given the constant comparison to his pops, one would expect Nance, Jr. to show some sort of homage to the elder Nance.

Nance is the first Laker since Shannon Brown in 2010 to compete in the annual event. Only three other Lakers have participated: Michael Cooper, Antonio Harvey, and Kobe Bryant who won the event in 1997 as a rookie.

Larry Nance, Jr. will be competing against Victor Oladipo, Aaron Gordon, and Dennis Smith, Jr. The loaded roster, which was reported in January, is sure to bring a lot of excitement to All-Star Saturday Night.
