Report: Lakers agree to 10-day contract with Nigel Hayes

The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly agreed to a 10-day contract with Nigel Hayes, who was playing with the Westchester Knicks in the NBA G-League.

In 30 games this season with Westchester, Hayes was averaging 14.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 45.8 percent from the field, 44 percent from three and 72.6 percent from the line.

The best outing this season from Hayes saw him put up 37 points against Deleware in early November, a game in which he went 14-for-20 from the field and 3-for-5 from three.

Hayes, who is listed at 6’8″, has the range necessary to be a small ball four and even see spot minutes as a three. However, his position in college was more as a power forward who saw minutes as a small ball five rather than a small forward.

Nonetheless, as the Lakers move to positionless basketball, Hayes is a big man who can hit from three and provide the Lakers with more shooting and spacing around some of its key players. And considering the pickings are generally slim in the G-League, it’s a player worth taking a shot with a 10-day contract on.
