The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly frontrunners to sign forward Jamil Wilson, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Wilson is expected to clear waivers today, clearing the way for his addition to the Lakers on a 10-day contract.
The Lakers recently waived center Andrew Bogut, giving them a free roster spot to add a new player or convert one of their two-way contracts (Alex Caruso and Vander Blue) to a full NBA deal.
Wilson previously played for the LA Clippers on a two-way deal but was released after finishing out his maximum 45 days in the NBA.
The Lakers have a dire need for shooting as the worst three-point shooting team in the NBA and Wilson could be a much-needed addition in that department. In 15 games with the Clippers, Wilson averaged 7.0 points per game on 46.9 percent shooting from the field while hitting 42.9 percent of his threes on 4.2 attempts per game.
These 15 games with the Clippers were the first NBA action that the 27-year-old rookie has seen.
Wilson can be signed to two consecutive 10-day deals before the Lakers must make a decision on signing him for the rest of the season. Last year, the Lakers found success by making a similar move with David Nwaba who was ultimately given a contract before being released in the summer to make space for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
