After their pursuit of Derrick Rose came to an end, it appears the Los Angeles Lakers turned elsewhere for backcourt depth as the team reached an agreement with guard Tyler Ennis. The deal is a minimum contract for two years with the second season being a team option.
Ennis landed with the Lakers in a trade deadline deal with the Houston Rockets. In his 22 games with the team, Ennis averaged 7.7 points, 2.4 assists and 1.2 rebounds per game. Ennis averaged 17.8 minutes per game and started in a pair of games. Shooting-wise, Ennis hit 45 percent of his field goals and 38.9 percent of his three-pointers.
Despite being in the league just three seasons, Ennis has played for four teams. This will be just the second time Ennis has stayed with the same team throughout the off-season.
According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, the Lakers were impressed with Ennis in his short time in L.A. and were looking to build continuity with his signing.

With the signing, the Lakers now have one more roster spot open and potentially two open should second round pick Thomas Bryant sign a two-way contract, though that is unlikely.
After the team cut guard David Nwaba, it’s likely the team looks for potential wing options as the only small forwards on the roster are Brandon Ingram and Corey Brewer.
