Report: Lakers exercise team option on David Nwaba’s contract

The Los Angeles Lakers have picked up David Nwaba’s $1.3-million team option for next season. Nwaba will return to the Lakers after a promising campaign.

The Southern California native started last season playing to the Los Angeles D-Fenders (now the South Bay Lakers) and was promoted to the play for the Lakers during the second half of last season.

In 20 games, Nwaba averaged six points and three rebounds, while shooting an efficient 58 percent from the field. Nwaba is only 24 and has shown a lot of defensive potential for the Lakers.

Nwaba was named to the D-League All-Defense and All-Rookie teams following the conclusion of the season. He has previously stated that he will play in Las Vegas Summer League, hoping to continue his development as an unheralded member of the Lakers’ young core.

Nwaba is an explosive guard who plays hard and tough. He is on a fairly cheap contract and if he can develop a steady jumper, then look for his game to improve even more.
