With the increasing buzz surrounding Paul George’s future, there remains little doubt that he won’t be a Pacer when his contract ends.

What is up for speculation is where Indiana could send George with a year remaining on his deal. The Lakers have shown interest, but also seem confident in signing George next off-season.

It doesn’t help George’s trade value if everyone knows he will sign with the Lakers next off-season, but according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, George’s camp is telling other teams that a rental is exactly what you’re getting with George:

Woj also reported that the Lakers haven’t engaged in any substantial trade talks with Indiana yet, but the team doesn’t seem interested in giving up their highest valued assets for George.

George owes nothing to Indiana and took away any false hope by revealing his plans for the future. On the flip side, it’s hard to see Indiana getting anything substantial with this revelation, but it does put the Lakers in an interesting position to snatch George a year earlier than expected.
