Report: Lakers met with Markelle Fultz

With just under a week until the NBA Draft lottery it seems the Lakers have started to show interest in one of the top talents in this summerā€™s draft. While it remains to be seen if the team will retain their first round pick or not, theyā€™ve already set their sights on four projected top 10 prospects.

One of those prospects was Washington point guard Markelle Fultz. In a reportĀ Wednesday night, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer tweeted that anĀ associate close to Fultz has said that he has met with each of the teams with the top eight odds in the draft lotteryĀ except for the Orlando Magic.

Darren Wolfsen of ESPN later reported that the Minnesota Timberwolves were another team that Fultz has not yet met with.

During the draft combine teams will meet with countless prospects, and even though the Lakers could very well not have a chance to draft Fultz, it is a positive to see that they are doing their due diligence. Fultz would add another primary ball handler to pair with Dā€™Angelo Russell in the backcourt and he is widely regarded as the number one prospect in the class.

Last year Fultz averaged 23.2 points, 5.9 assists and 5.7 rebounds, while shooting 41.3% from deepĀ as a freshman at Washington.

We will know for sure on May 16th whether or not the purple and gold keep their top-three protected first-round pick or if they will convey it to Philadelphia. Until then, there is a ton of uncertainty as to what the Lakers can do this offseason. In the meantime, take a look at some different mock draft scenarios that the team could be faced with.
