Report: Lakers are set on drafting Lonzo Ball

The Lakers will find out if they will keep or lose their top-three protected first round pick on May 16th at the NBA draft lottery, but until then, they are reportedly set on drafting former UCLA standout, Lonzo Ball if they kept their pick.

According to ESPN’s Chad Ford, the Lakers are “enamored” with the 19-year-old point guard. The Lakers are looking to add more star power during the offseason and they believe that Ball will fit that mold.

This is not the first time that Ball and the Lakers have expressed mutual interest with each other. During an interview with the Vertical last week, Ball explained his interest and desires to play for the purple and gold.

Ball is a native of California and grew up watching the Lakers play. As a freshman at UCLA, he averaged 14.6 points, six rebounds, and seven assists. He led the Bruins to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Basketball Tournament last March.

Although Ball and the Lakers have expressed interest with each other and seemed like a perfect match, it is still all wishful thinking at this point. The first and most important step in this arrangement is for the Lakers to keep their pick come May 16th. The Lakers have a 47 percent chance to have a shot at Ball.
