Report: Nick Young likely to participate in Lakers’ training camp

According to Mike Bresnahan of Spectrum Sportsnet, Nick Young will likely participate in the Lakers’ training camp next week at the college campus of Santa Barbra. Throughout the summer and most of the offseason, it was reported that the Lakers were looking for a way to trade or cut Young from the team. It seems the Lakers have decided to hold on to Young a little longer.

Young’s appearance in training camp doesn’t mean that he will be on the opening night roster, but this will give him the opportunity to compete and show that he still provide good contributions off the bench.  Young averaged career lows in points and shooting last year. He was also in an antagonistic position with D’Angelo Russell after the whole video incident was released.

There is no question that the Lakers are Russell’s team, so it will be interesting to see how he and Young will mesh during the season. If Young can offer the Lakers his joyous and exuberant personality on and off the court, then he should deserve a second chance to prove himself. Young proved that he can play in an up and down system with Mike D’Antoni, maybe he can succeed in a similar system with Luke Walton. The Lakers’ training camp roster is currently set at 19.
