The Los Angeles Lakers pleasantly surprised everyone with their play in the Las Vegas Summer League. While they ultimately finished with just a 3-2 record, their style of play, the improvements made by their incumbent players, and the skillset of their rookies all combined to create an air of hope about the team.
At the heart of the enjoyable experience was second-year point guard D’Angelo Russell. The sophomore showed poise in leading the team while adding to an already promising skillset. Russell was one of the most dominant players in the summer tournament, looking like a player with the freedom to lead an offense.
