Report: Lakers trade for Jose Calderon

Update:

Mike Bresnahan of TWC SportsNet is reporting that the Lakers will receive two second round picks in the draft. Mark Medina has since confirmed the report. In exchange, the Lakers will be giving up the rights to a player, likely an old draft-and-stash pick.

In what has been a crazy free agency period, things just got that much crazier. Dwyane Wade is having a homecoming of sorts, opting to sign with the Bulls over the Miami Heat. Chicago had to make some room in order to sign Wade, having to deal both Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Jose Calderon. Dunleavy was shipped to Cleveland, while Calderon ends up the newest Los Angeles Laker, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical.

Calderon joins a backcourt of D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, and Lou Williams, with Marcelo Huertas remaining unsigned. The addition on Calderon as a player isn’t the main kicker in the trade, with a draft pick most likely coming with him to Los Angeles.

The terms are still undisclosed, but Marc Stein of ESPN says the Lakers convinced the Bulls to partner with them over the Brooklyn Nets.
