Report: Pau Gasol interested in a return to the Lakers

The NBA free agency period turned to chaos hours before it even began, with numerous reports of the Los Angeles Lakers not even having a chance to meet with some of the top free agents in this year’s group.

The Lakers needed a center in the worst way, and once Hassan Whiteside decided he would not meet with Los Angeles, it was time to turn to other options. While many speculated that it could be time for the Lakers to make a move for Bismack Biyombo, they surprised everyone by reaching out to Cleveland Cavaliers big man Timofey Mozgov right as the moratorium period opened.

Shortly after, the Lakers and Mozgov reportedly reached an agreement on a four-year, $64 million contract. Immediately after that, another surprising name was thrown out there as an option for the Lakers: Pau Gasol.

ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne reports that the once beloved Gasol is surprisingly open to a return to Los Angeles, if they want him.

The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski also reported that Gasol is interested in being a Laker again, but there is no word on how the team feels about it. With Mozgov and Tarik Black expected to fill most of the minutes at center, there may be no room for Gasol to return to Los Angeles.

It might be best for both parties to move away from one another once again, but there is no question Pau still remains a fan favorite in Los Angeles, and fans would love to have him back.

  1. This is the perfect team for Paun – great organization and an A++++ coach. He’ll miss the Civic Opera, though. San Antonio is a nice town, but it’s a bit quiet. There’s only so many times a person can hang out at the Riverwalk! Nice winters, though.
