Luke Walton could start coaching the Lakers as soon as Monday

One thing was a certainty after Game 7 of the NBA Finals: The Lakers were getting their head coach, Luke Walton, after the final buzzer. Whether we’d have to endure a parade or some other reason he would be available the day after was the question. When the Cavaliers were crowned champions of the NBA, Luke Walton became a Laker once more.

According to the OC Register’s Bill Oram, the Lakers expect that Walton could be in office as soon as tomorrow.

Walton can join Brian Shaw, Jesse Mermuys, and the rest of the Lakers’ brass in the final days leading up to Thursday’s NBA Draft.

The Lakers have the choice of either Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram, but all signs are pointing to Ingram being the one to end up in Purple and Gold. Pick #32 is more of a mystery, and Walton might have a say in who ends up in Los Angeles at the top of the second round. After the Draft, Walton has his first go in the free agency process as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.
